Wayne County High School Library Media Center Mission

Wayne County High School Library Media Center will provide a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Strong relationships enable our staff to set high yet personalized student expectations.  By collaborating with all stakeholders, Wayne County High School Library will offer diverse educational experiences, allowing all students to acquire the skills they need after graduation.  By nurturing our students’ social, physical, and intellectual growth, our mission is to encourage our students to become responsible citizens, lifelong learners, and leaders in the global community. The primary focus of the media center is to facilitate and support the learning process in our students through reading and information literacy.

 

Wayne County High School Library Media Center Vision

The vision of the Wayne County High School Library Media Center is for the media center to be the focal point of the school and to serve as the core of the educational program. The library media center must strive to accommodate students and teachers. The library media center will maintain a collection of print and non-print items that will both support the curriculum and interest the patrons.

 

Operational Procedures

Hours of Operation

The Wayne County High School Library is open Monday through Friday during regular school hours. Students may check out books before and after school and between classes. Students have the opportunity to use the library for independent study and personal use. 

 

Scheduling Policy

Classes may be scheduled in the library for library skills, research, or class projects by contacting the library media specialist. 

The library serves students in grades 9-12 at Wayne County High School.

*The Librarian also serves as the School Testing Coordinator. The above schedule is subject to change based on the testing dates in October through May. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Destiny Library Software

The library catalog is maintained on our Wayne County High School Destiny Portal Web Page. Any student is able to search for new titles and see available books.

 

Circulation Policies

  • Students may check out two books at a time. 
  • Items are checked out for a period of 2 weeks.
  • Items may be renewed if the student/teacher still needs the items.
  • Reference books, such as encyclopedias and dictionaries, are to be used only in the library. Teachers may check out these items for classroom use only.

Overdue Materials

  • A student is responsible for any books checked out in his/her name.
  • Items overdue by 1 month are considered lost and require immediate payment for a replacement copy.

 Lost Materials

  • Lost materials are charged the cost of the item.
  • Students with lost books will be placed on the school fine list.

Damaged Materials

  • Minor repairs will be performed as needed; however, students who have damaged items beyond repair will be expected to pay the purchase price of the book. 
  • All books with water damage will be charged the purchase price of the book.
